GIVEAWAY: JetKids BedBox Toddler Airplane Bed

I survived a 7 hour 40 minute red eye flight with my three and five year old three days ago! I didn't think it was a big deal when we first booked tickets for this trip. Well, neither did the husband and that is why he suggested I brought the kids down under to look for him. Then family and friends started questioning us about the flight timing.

"Why did you choose an overnight flight?"

We chose an overnight flight because Ewan and Faye would naturally want to sleep. Why wouldn't they? If it was a day flight, they would be terrorising me! It's better they be asleep than awake in my opinion.

With all these questions posed to me, including "Are you flying solo with the children?", I thought a  Business Class seat with a flat bed would do us good. *hahah* But we all know that was not going to happen.

A practical and economical alternative over Business Class would be JetKids BedBox, making it a First Class travel for little children! We unveiled our BedBox from TaxiBaby the night before our flight and the children were high from excitement sticking their JetKids luggage stickers on this ultimate travel accessory.

STORAGE
I love it that there are ample space in the suitcase [20 litres of storage] to put all the things that we needed for our flight! It contained a soft toy of Faye's, Simply for Flying logbooks, change of clothes [one set each], a customised craft activity set from Le Box, two Mifold Grab-And-Go, Cloversoft wet wipes and the BedBox bedding itself!

Note: I later learnt that Australia has not officially approved the use of Mifold Grab-And-Go in their cars and had it removed from our packing list.

DECOR AND DESIGN
Luggage stickers for the JetKids BedBox are provided [just like how RIMOWA does it with their signature luggage stickers] for the children to customise their suitcases. Ewan and Faye loved this personalisation feature of their new hand luggage and went overboard on the pasting! Well, it's their bag and so, they were entitled to do whatever that pleases them.

We definitely love the swivel from the wheels. We have owned two different brands of ride-on suitcases and they move only in one direction. Many times when we pull Ewan along and make a turn, he would topple off. With JetKids BedBox, this was easily rectified. We gave it a try and it works like an amazing scooter [but it isn't] without toppling kids! See video clip above on how smooth it is when Ewan test-rode it. There is also a moulded imprint for feet support which I found very thoughtful of the designers.

FUNCTIONALITY
I remember seeing the launch of this hand luggage, ride-on suitcase and bed on the internet and it became quite a talking point amongst families with toddlers. I was skeptical back then because if it has the same restrictions like the bassinet airlines are currently offering whenever there is a turbulence, I am in for deep trouble.

When we first travelled with baby Ewan, we were delighted to know the existence of bassinets. It was after three turbulences in a flight and having to remove a sleeping baby from his slumber that we found plane bassinets a disastrous invention! Ever since then, I baby-wear my babies to sleep even on a 14 hour flight. At least, I was guaranteed peace!

So if I have to remove my toddler from JetKids BedBox every time there is a turbulence, I am so not going to invest my time in one.

Did that happen?

No. Faye was undisturbed the whole time, even through turbulence because she was strapped in with her seat belt during sleep.

The JetKids BedBox cannot be used during taxi, takeoff and landing - which is fair. I had it comfortably stowed under the seat in front of us. I can't imagine putting it in the overhead compartment. It's not like I'm tall enough *hahah*

I didn't think it worked for Ewan [five years old and 110cm tall] though. We were lucky enough to get an extra empty seat for the son to lay flat on [not a full flight] and he didn't require any travel accessory to help with his sleeping posture. It was great for him to stretch his legs out while indulging in his in-flight entertainment but it seemed too small for him to lay flat on no matter how hard he tries to curl himself in.

My honest opinion? Perfect for ages zero to three or up to 90cm tall. They will fit into the JetKids BedBox beautifully.

SETUP
The setup was straight forward. I didn't even read the manual to figure out how this works.

1. Lift - Place case in front of seat. Press buttons and lift lid.
2. Turn - Turn lid and adjust according to seat height at the desired place
3. Secure - Use the strap to secure the suitcase to the aircraft seat structure
4. Pull - Pull out extension plate towards the seat in front
5. Enjoy your flight - Unfold mattress and  place the side cushions

TaxiBaby has the BedBox in stock and they carry a range of travel accessories and products for plane, train and car commutes. Remember our blog comparison on GrabFamily Vs Uber Car Seats? Grab uses Mifold and Uber uses IMMI Go, both of which are available at TaxiBaby! However, please note that Qantas and Jetstar do not recognise or allow any plane accessory on board [Read]. Do check with your airline operator when flying because I heard it is also crew-dependent. We were on Singapore Airlines and they were happy to let us use it.

Daddy has been in Sydney for the past week and we are all missing him. I believe he too because he was willing to skip a few hours of class to pick us up at the airport!
