Gardens By The Bay: Flowery Fun Times

I've been putting this off for far too long! Flowery Fun Times at Gardens By The Bay made its debut on 22nd of May 2015 but we couldn't possibly find time for a visit because we were in the thick of birthday celebrations. Now that the dust had settled, it is perfect time to make this trip.

Oh before you fret and lose sleep over it, there is still time! The Flowery Fun Times installation will stay until 19th of July 2015. Take this chance to relive your childhood as Mother Goose greets you from the entrance of the Flower Dome. You will be stepping into a world of Mary Had a Little Lamb, the Old Lady in Her Shoe, Old MacDonald Had a Farm and many more nursery rhymes through the language of plants. I brought a picnic mat along for our visit with an array of fairy tales to read to the children. What better way to augment a gardeny storytelling experience by engaging them with activities of our own. Doesn't quite matter that we've skipped school for this because I believe Ewan (not so much for Faye) learnt quite a bit about the flora and fauna at today's drop in.

This is the third of six chapters in Gardens By The Bay storytelling journey in 2015. What I really liked about the displays? English, Chinese, Malay and Indian nursery rhymes were all exhibited! It wasn't skewed towards the English rhymes like Mary Mary Quite Contrary and Baa Baa Black Sheep but we also learnt about 泥娃娃 (Clay Dolly) and Enjit Enjit Semut (An Ant Bite). Educational because it teaches our children to embrace our multi-racial community with children folklores of different languages!

We started our stroll through the garden of rhymes with a boy wanting to dress up as Baby Bear in the Goldilocks story. He chose the Red Fox from Gingerbread Man for his little sister who was keen only to wear her mask for 2 minutes. They looked so cute wandering amongst hydrangeas and bumble bees with their handmade masks (by A.muse).

There were certain flowers that I knew and shared them excitedly with Ewan. He went Ooooo and Ahhhh but when he asked "How about this mommy? What is the name of this flower?" I was just thankful there were names and descriptions to certain faunas that I've never seen! Made me feel so learned *hehe*

Amidst a field of colourful Lupins, Delphimiums and Foxgloves, you will find Humpty Dumpty and Itsy Bitsy Spider right next to each other. Oh that spidey! It is black and inconspicuous. If not for the motorised pulley, we would have missed it because Humpty Dumpty is a very large egg! Then, the son decided that a song of Itsy Bitsy Spider should be sang right there at the gardens.

Personally, I find that the best time to visit would be at opening because the crowd is so small, you wouldn't get other visitors in your photographs. Also, the peace and quiet were evident without much chattering echoing within the Flower Dome. Aha! So at 0900 hours when the conservatories opened today, my children's voices were the disruptions *grins*

We took a lot more pictures than this but I know what we've shared would have bought you over for a Flowery Fun Timevisit already. Remember to bring along a jacket for the children if you don't want them to catch a chill! It is the perfect outing this June to run away from this sweltering heat!

While we enjoy the beautiful installations, do not forget to appreciate the landscapers and designers who made these all so delightful to our eyes. They must have worked really hard on every showcase but always the unsung heroes.

Now the deal here is, for all you local families, Gardens By The Bay has a promotion for their Family Package at S$50 (usual price S$64), which allows entry to both conservatories for 2 adults and 2 children! Offer ends on 28th of June 2015!

Book your days off this June holidays with the exciting events Gardens By The Bay have to offer. Follow them closely on their Calendar of Events to find out what best suits the needs of your family for an amazing time at the Gardens!
